In Parade, Belgian photographer Vincen Beeckman explores carnival as a space for encounter, transformation, and collective expression. True to his approach—rooted in exchange and closeness with the communities he photographs—he invites them to share their stories and imaginations.
From the carnival in Breda, the Netherlands, to the one in Curaçao, and including gatherings of an Indonesian community in a retirement home, he weaves a vibrant mosaic of traditions and encounters, capturing both the exuberance of the parades and the tenderness of moments shared over a meal, music, or shared memories. Through this diversity of situations and communities, the book reveals a common energy: that of coming together and the joy of being together.
More than just a book about carnival, Parade is a celebration of human diversity, of sharing, and of the bonds that unite us. It is an invitation to see the people we encounter in a new light and to view photography as a means of forging connections as much as of bearing witness to the world.

At the Fondation, we believe in the essential role of the book in showcasing the work of photographers. Today, the photobook offers a level of creativity, quality, and depth of meaning never before seen in the history of photography. That is why we feel it is important, through the Henri Cartier-Bresson Fondation’s “Book of the Month” feature, to highlight a recently published work that has made a particular impression on us.
The book will soon be available online.
