Originally published in 2011, Mark Steinmetz’s book has now been reissued in an expanded edition featuring 30 previously unpublished images and the lyrics from Alice Cooper’s album *School’s Out*.
Mark Steinmetz’s Summertime immerses us in the American summers of the 1980s, a backdrop for the vacations of children and teenagers who spend their days outdoors. Mark Steinmetz was in his early twenties when he photographed the everyday lives of these young vacationers, who were close to the age he himself had just left behind. In black and white, he captures places that are familiar to him. Baseball, summer camps, fields, cabins, campfires: all the gestures, places, and rituals that make up the slow, relaxed atmosphere of American summers before digital distractions. Back then, summers seemed to stretch on indefinitely, and children felt they had all the time in the world.
Beautifully printed, this new edition of Summertime published by Nazraeli is limited to 2,000 copies.
