In this episode, historian and exhibition curator Ilsen About analyzes Martine Franck’s photograph Gypsy Pilgrimages, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, taken in 1973. It’s an opportunity to recount the history of this pilgrimage and Martine Franck’s desire to capture the intimacy of the Romani people.
Each episode of Une image, des images is an opportunity for a specialist to recount the story of a particular image: a way of discovering, through his or her eyes, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson’s archives and the photographic work of its two founders.
This program is made possible with the generous support of the Franck family.
