In this episode, Adrien Genoudet, writer and researcher in visual history, analyses the photographic series of the Coronation of King George VI in 1937, a historic event that brought together an immense crowd in the streets of London. Henri Cartier-Bresson chose to turn his back on the king in order to photograph the people watching the procession pass by, preferring the spectators to the royal figure. He offers a social and deeply popular vision of this display of power.
Each episode of Une image, des images is an opportunity for a specialist to recount the story of a particular image: a way of discovering, through his or her eyes, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson’s archives and the photographic work of its two founders.
This program is made possible with the generous support of the Franck family.
