On the occasion of the exhibition Paul Strand: The Balance of forces, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson and the Christine Cinéma Club propose a special evening around two films by Paul Strand: Manhatta (1921) and Redes (1936). Manhatta, made with the painter Charles Sheeler, is considered the first opus of American experimental cinema but also the initiator of a genre very popular with the avant-garde, the “city film”. Redes, also known as The Wave or Les Révoltés d’Alvarado, is Strand’s first feature film. It documents the struggle of a group of Mexican fishermen against the capitalist exploiter.
The screening will be introduced by Philippe-Alain Michaud, curator at the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou.
Ticketing opens on the Christine Cinéma Club website on Friday 10 March.
