On August 5, 1983, Jean-Michel André’s father was murdered along with six other people in a hotel in Avignon. They were on vacation together. The case was never clearly solved, but the investigation did reveal a motive: an attempted hold-up by “small-time” criminals that degenerated into carnage.
Chambre 207 is in the vein of autofiction, based on a memory reinvented in the wake of this childhood trauma. Jean-Michel André travels in the footsteps of lost memories. He mixes his photographs with elements of investigation, archives and family objects, to compose a collection that questions memory, mourning and reparation.
The book, in A4 format – that of the investigation files – is conceived as a visual essay that is as much about reconstitution as reconstruction.
Meeting in French, followed by signing session.
Paid admission. Tickets available via online ticketing.
