Le corps humain est à la fois un système fonctionnel de relations internes et le véhicule d’innombrables correspondances dans un environnement analogique, voire même le support premier de la pensée analogique. On peut regarder l’œuvre photographique de John Coplans comme une série de variations sur cette définition des « relations du corps » (selon l’expression de l’artiste Raoul Hausmann). Nous en considèrerons trois aspects : les rapports entre vie des formes et biographie ; le travail sur les paysages du corps ; les reprises, appropriations ou mises en mouvement par d’autres artistes depuis les années 1980.
