The Ivorian artist presents the book Eboro on the occasion of the opening of his first monographic exhibition in France. This autobiographical project begins in Dakar, Senegal: on July 22, 1986, the uncle of Nuits Balnéaires, Noël X. Ebony, a renowned journalist and playwright, disappeared under mysterious circumstances. In the Agni-Bona tradition of Côte d’Ivoire, to which the artist is deeply connected, the nephew plays a key role in accompanying his uncle in his passage to the afterlife. The book retraces this journey through the figure of a poet and fisherman in a dreamlike atmosphere, blending literary, pictorial, historical, and symbolic influences from ancestral Ivorian cultures.
Nuits Balnéaires conceived Eboro intuitively, allowing the emotional power of places and family memory to shape the interconnected visual chapters of this multi-layered work. Leafing through the book offers a unique opportunity to encounter the artist and discover the project in his own words.
