Le Feuilletage #20 | Summertime by Mark Steinmetz

Thursday, April 9th, 2026 at 7:00 PM

Published in 2011, Mark Steinmetz’s book is now reissued in an expanded edition featuring 30 previously unpublished images and the lyrics from Alice Cooper’s album School’s Out.

Summertime by Mark Steinmetz immerses us in the American summers of the 1980s, the backdrop of children’s and teenagers’ vacations spent outdoors. Steinmetz was in his early twenties when he photographed the everyday lives of these young vacationers, close to the age he had just left behind himself. In black and white, he captures familiar places. Baseball, summer camps, fields, cabins, campfires : gestures, spaces, and rituals that create the slow, relaxed atmosphere of American summers before digital distractions. At that time, summers seemed to stretch on endlessly, and children felt they had all the time in the world.

Beautifully printed, this new edition of Summertime, published by Nazraeli, is limited to 2,000 copies.

Talk in English with Mark Steinmetz, followed by a signing session.

Le Feuilletage is an event format created by the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson dedicated to the photobook.

It invites a photographer to revisit the genesis of one of their works — from image selection to sequencing and book design.
