Grant and awards

The Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, true to the vision of its two founders, remains deeply committed to supporting contemporary creation.

The Henri Cartier-Bresson Creation Award (formerly known as HCB Award) honors the work of established photographers. It leads to the publication of a book and an exhibition presented at the Fondation. Since its inception, the Award has enabled many international artists to carry out ambitious photographic projects.

In 2024, the Foundation presented, for the first time, an Honorary Award to artist Sophie Calle, on the occasion of its annual gala.

In 2025, it expands its scope with two new initiatives:

– The Martine Franck Curatorial Research Grant, designed to support researchers and curators in developing exhibition or research projects based on the Fondation’s archives. This program aims to foster new curatorial approaches to the work of Martine Franck and/or Henri Cartier-Bresson.

– The Henri Cartier-Bresson Self-Published PhotoBook Award, which recognizes a book conceived and distributed outside traditional publishing circuits.

Through these initiatives, the Fondation reaffirms its role as an active supporter of contemporary photography.
